The Student Council of the University of Iceland (SHÍ), in collaboration with Viska – The Union, is hiring a new employee for SHÍ’s Rights Office to work on improving student rights in matters related to employment and working conditions. This initiative is the first of its kind in Iceland, and we at SHÍ are incredibly excited to shape the future of students through this innovative change.

We are now seeking applications for the position of Student Union Representative for Employment and Rights Matters!

Job Description

The Student Employment and Rights Representative is a full-time position funded by Viska – The Union through a grant to the office of the Student Council of the University of Iceland (SHÍ). The representative works closely with Viska to increase awareness among university students about employment rights and conditions in the labor market and to provide services to students regarding their working conditions and rights. The representative will also provide Viska with information on the status of university students in the labor market.

Responsibilities

The representative’s duties are divided into two main areas. First, engaging with university students about matters related to employment and rights. Second, supporting Viska in promoting its services to university students and collaborating with Viska on improving and innovating its student services.

Key Tasks

• Provide guidance to university students on employment and rights issues, in collaboration with Viska experts.
• Build and maintain connections between Viska and university students.
• Assist Viska in promoting its student-focused services, including organizing educational sessions, presentations, and events for students, in collaboration with Viska.
• Contribute to the improvement and innovation of Viska’s student services.

Requirements

• The applicant must have been enrolled at the University of Iceland during the current academic year.
• Experience and knowledge of SHÍ’s operations are an advantage.
• Education relevant to the role is a plus, though applicants are not required to hold a university degree.
• Proficiency in both Icelandic and English is required.

Workplace

The representative will have an office space at SHÍ and access to a workspace at Viska as well.
