The university’s Freshers’ Days started today, August 31, and run until Friday, September 4. We at the Student Council (SHÍ) have helped the university make Freshers’ Days as fun as possible and have organized all sorts of enjoyable events throughout the week.

Monday, August 31

• 10:00-14:00 The Student Council manned the information desk at at Háskólatorg, where tickets for Októberfest were also sold.
• 11:30-13:00 Presentation about university services. The main service offices of the university had information booths where students could get answers to numerous questions. For example, SHÍ, Viska, the International Office, the Student Registry and other university service providers had booths.
• 13:30 Katla Ólafsdóttir, president of SHÍ, invited freshmen to walk with her around the university campus and shared insights and tips about being a student at the University of Iceland.

Tuesday, September 1

• 10:00-14:00 The Student Council manned the information desk at at Háskólatorg, where tickets for Októberfest were also sold.
• 12:00 The Green Freshers’ Day. Ragna Benedikta Garðarsdóttir, vice-rector for teaching, and Katla Ólafsdóttir, president of SHÍ, receive the Green Flag on behalf of HÍ and SHÍ from a representative of Landvernd. The representatives then plant trees on the university grounds.

Wednesday, September 2

• 10:00-14:00 The Student Council manned the information desk at at Háskólatorg, where tickets for Októberfest were also sold.
• 12:00 YUNGAMLI will have a lunchtime concert at Háskólatorg to warm up for Októberfest!

Thursday, September 3

• 10:00-14:00 Stúdentaráð mannar upplýsingaborð á Háskólatorgi, þar sem miðasala fyrir Októberfest fer einnig fram.
• 17:00 The Reykjavík International Film Festival (RIFF) is holding a science trip at Háskólabíó. You can sign up here.

Friday, September 4

• 10:00-14:00 The Student Council manned the information desk at at Háskólatorg, where tickets for Októberfest were also sold.
• 12:00-15:00 The SHÍ Freshers’ Football Tournament will be held on the lawn in front of Aðalbyggingin. We encourage all student associations to sign up and for all freshmen as well as other students to take part!
