Appointment of an International Officer, Managing Director, Editor and Employment and Sustainability Officer at the Student Council Office

Cynthia Anne Namugambe, Mathias Bragi Ölvisson, Valeria Bulatova and Guðlaug Eva Albertsdóttir have joined the staff of the Student Council Office. Appointments were made to the positions of International Officer, Managing Director, Editor of the Student Paper and Employment and Sustainability Officer.

International Officer of the Student Council Office

Cynthia Anne Namugambe has been appointed International Officer at the Student Council Office. Cynthia is a 21-year-old student of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Iceland and has simultaneously worked as an assistant for Sprettur, a project supporting students with international backgrounds. Cynthia has extensive experience within the Student Council, having served on the School Council of Engineering and Natural Sciences, the Equality Committee and the Internatioal Committee of the Student Council during the past academic year. She has also served as a youth representative for Amnesty International Iceland and as the International Officer of Röskva.

The International Officer oversees the Student Council Office’s services for international students and is responsible for safeguarding their interests, facilitating their active participation in the university community, responding to inquiries and providing other forms of assistance.

Managing Director of the Student Council Office

Mathias Bragi Ölvisson has been appointed Managing Director of the Student Council Office. Mathias is 26 years old and holds a BA degree in Economics with a minor in Political Science from the University of Iceland, as well as a BSc degree in Psychology from the University of Oslo. Mathias has worked as an intern at the Delegation of the European Union to Iceland, where he conducted independent analyses and maintained communication with various stakeholders. He has previously worked for Statistics Iceland and has extensive experience within the Student Council, having served as an alternate representative on the Student Council and as President of Röskva. Mathias has strong expertise in finance and accounting and is highly effective in both teamwork and independent projects. He is also very adaptable with regard to the diverse responsibilities of the office.

The Managing Director is responsible for overseeing the office’s daily operations, financial management, accounting, and contract administration. The role also includes maintaining meeting records, ensuring effective and efficient communication within the Council and with stakeholders, and managing the office’s day-to-day activities.

Editor of the Student Paper

Valeria Bulatova has been appointed Editor of the Student Paper at the Student Council Office. Valeria is a 22-year-old Economics student at the University of Iceland with extensive editorial experience. During the past academic year, she served as Editor of Röskva, where she established Röskva’s new newspaper, Röddin. She has also served as Editor of Beneventum, the student newspaper of Menntaskólinn við Hamrahlíð. In addition, she has substantial experience within the Student Council, having served as an alternate representative on the Council during the past academic year and as a student representative on the Board of the School of Social Sciences at the University of Iceland.

The Editor of the Student Paper leads the editorial work and shapes the publication’s editorial policy, organizes publishing schedules, and manages advertising sales. The Editor leads the editorial team and is responsible for the editorial development of content, with the aim of strengthening the paper as a platform for diverse and critical discussion among students.

Employment and Sustainability Officer of the Student Council Office

Guðlaug Eva Albertsdóttir has been appointed Employment and Sustainability Officer at the Student Council Office. Guðlaug is a 23-year-old Psychology student at the University of Iceland with a minor in Business. Guðlaug has extensive experience in employment matters and has worked as an insurance advisor at Sjóvá, where she provided consultation and customer service. During the past academic year, she served on the Student Council of the School of Health Sciences and on the Student Council’s Finance and Labour Market Committee, and she has also served as an alternate representative on the Student Council.

The Employment and Sustainability Officer provides advice and services to students regarding their employment conditions and labour rights. The position is part of a collaboration between the Student Council and Viska – Union and also involves participating in education and awareness-raising initiatives concerning rights-related issues, in close cooperation with the Viska office.
